December 1st 2025 MishMash Center for AI and Creativity was officially started, after a few months of intense activities by the management group and the work-package leader team. Just before the summer, we got information that the Research Council of Norway (NFR) had decided that MishMash was one of six center that received funding from the so-called “AI billion” that the Norwegian government decided to spend on research on AI.
As we can read on the website, MishMash “is a large Norwegian consortium dedicated to exploring the intersection of AI and creativity. Our primary objective is to create, explore, and reflect on AI for, through, and in creative practices. We will investigate AI’s impact on creative processes, develop innovative CoCreative AI systems, and address AI’s ethical, cultural, and societal implications in creative domains”. The image on top shows most of the partners involved, both nationally, and internationally.
As a partner of MishMash, NTNU will hire two PhD research fellows working with topics related to AI and creativity, one funded by MishMash, and one funded by NTNU. They will be doing research for three years linked to each of two of the seven work-packages the center is organised around: WP1: AI for artistic performances, and WP3: Creative use of AI for health and well-being. The announcements for these positions will be out shortly, with a deadline in april 2026.
My role in MishMash is as NTNUs coordinator and as a co-leader of Work package 3, together with Claire Ghetti (UiB) and Jonna Vuoskoski (UiO), in addition to supervising one of the PhDs.

Meeting with the MishMash community has so far seemed very promising - truly and multi-disciplinary group with a wide range of competencies and backgrounds. Also, it is very intriguing that MishMash aims at both doing artistic and scientific research.
